the transition of a loved one from home, to a hospital, to a facility, can have a profound effect on their sense of well being..
As a population we witness the many factors that determine what effect the many years of life's wear and tear has on a person's functional decline. While heredity can determine the basic structure of a person, environmental influences shape us to create successes and handle failures.
Geriatric Massage & Long Term Care is not simply a lighter form of Swedish Massage. It involves specialized strokes and techniques designed for aging skin, muscles, and compromised issues that general massage therapy usually does not address. Most geriatric massages are performed in a resident bed, chair or wheelchair so as not to compromise the client. Geriatric Massage involves knowledge of certain pathologies, pharmacology, and nutrition to readily communicate with medical staff prior to a person receiving massage.
Depending on the pathology of a resident, Geriatric Massage offers improved blood and lymph circulation, faster healing, pain relief, restored range of motion and flexibility; reduced anxiety, tension and stress, relief from depression, and enhance immune function. Massage can offer better sleep patterns and relief for those suffering from arthritis and chronic pain, assist Parkinson's disease with less stress and rigidity symptoms, and offer complimentary care to one receiving physical therapy or just finishing up a physical therapy treatment plan.
Senior Care Massage is primarily for healthy, active seniors living independently in a private or assisted living home. These massages are primarily received in my office or at an assisted living location using a massage table, wheel chair or bed. Various techniques can be used based on client evaluation. Each massage is tailored to the specific needs of the client and sometimes may need a doctor's release. A massage can be focused on a single problem area, or for just general concerns to relieve stress and tension and increase circulation and well-being.
Cancer Exercise became a personal necessity to Cathy Sunderlin based on her own cancer diagnosis. This is a Cancer Recovery Exercise Program designed specifically for cancer patients/survivors to regain their quality of life. This goal became a reality for Cathy to live beyond breast cancer.
